Austria is a country in Central Europe and one of the nine states of Austria. It is a landlocked country to the East of Germany, with much of its terrain covered by mountains.
The state of Upper Austria borders to Lower Austria in the north, Styria in the east, Salzburg and Carinthia in the south, and Tyrol as well as Vorarlberg in Switzerland in the west. In total it has an area of 27,400 km².
